Children of John of Gaunt, (1340-1399), 1st Duke of Lancaster, Duke of Aquitaine, third son of King Edward III and Katherine Swynford née (de) Roet
(1350-1403).

John and Katherine married in 1396.The four children Katherine had borne John of Gaunt had been given the surname "Beaufort" and were already adults when they were legitimised by this marriage with approval by King Richard II. The Beauforts were later barred from inheriting the throne by a clause inserted into the legitimation act by their half-brother, Henry IV.
