House of Salm

Counts of Salm

Counts of Salm

Counts of Salm (1019–1165)

Divided into Lower Salm and Upper Salm in 1165.
Over the centuries the House of Salm was divided and reunited as shown by the table above. All surviving branches were mediatised to larger states in 1813.
Altgrave (Old Count) was a title used by the counts of Lower Salm to distinguish themselves from the Wild- and Rhinegraves of Upper Salm, since Lower Salm was the senior branch of the family.
