  • Sizzo I, (d.1160), Count of Schwarzburg. Founder of the dynasty.


Partitioned and reannexed several times until 1599 when the county was partitioned into Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, which were not reunified until 1909. Male line extinct in 1971.
The Counts of Schwarzburg were Masters of the Horse as illustrated in the bottom of the arms: or a pitchfork and beneath a horsecomb both fesseways gules.
