Lords of Mantua
1328-1433

• Luigi Gonzaga, (ruled 1328–60),elected People's Captain.

• Francesco I Gonzaga, (1366–1407), ruler of from 1382. Francesco I Gonzaga was permitted to use the arms of Visconti by Gian Galeazzo, Duke of Milan in 1389. In 1394, Emperor Wenceslas, King of Bohemia granted him an augmentation of the arms of Bohemia.

• Gianfrancesco I, (1395– 1444), Lord of Mantua 1407–1433 and Marquess of Mantua from 1433 to 1444. The first Gonzaga to bear the title of Marquess, which he was granted by Emperor Sigismund on 1433.

• Francesco II (or IV) Gonzaga, ( 1466– 1519), Marquess of Mantua from 1484 and Gonfalonier of the Church from 1510.

• Federico II of Gonzaga, (1500–1540), Marquess of Mantua from 1484 and Duke of Mantua from 1530. Also Marquis of Montferrat from 1536.

• Francesco III Gonzaga, (1533-1550), Duke of Mantua and Marquess of Montferrat from 1540. Son of Federico II of Gonzaga and Maria Palaeologina of Montferrat.

• Guglielmo I Gonzaga, (1538-1587), Duke of Mantua and Marquess of Montferrat, then (from 1574) Duke of Montferrat (as Guglielmo X of Monferrato) from 1550.

• Vincenzo I of Gonzaga, (1562- 1612), Duke of Mantua and Montferrat from 1587. Founder of the Order of the Precious Blood in 1608.

• Charles IV of Gonzaga-Nevers, ( 1652 – 1708), Duke of Mantua and Montferrat from 1665, P rince d'Arches and the last ruler of the Duchy of Mantua of the House of Gonzaga.
