  • Marquess of Douglas 1633 Douglas extant created Duke of Douglas in 1703, that title extinct in 1761; inherited by the Duke of Hamilton in 1761
  • Marquess of Argyll 1641 Campbell forfeit 1661
  • Marquess of Atholl 1676 Murray extant created Duke of Atholl in 1703
  • Marquess of Queensberry 1682 Douglas extant created Duke of Queensberry in 1684. The titles separated in 1812
  • Marquess of Dumfriesshire 1684 Douglas extant subsidiary title of the Duke of Queensberry
  • Marquess of Tweeddale 1694 Hay extant
  • Marquess of Lothian 1701 Kerr extant
  • Marquess of Annandale 1701 Johnston/Johnstone/Vanden Bempde dormant 1792 officially used today as a courtesy title by a Johnston descendant, but the peerage itself remains dormant.
