John Frederick I, ( 1503– 1554), called John the Magnanimous, was Elector of Saxony from 1532 – 1547 and Duke of Saxony from 1547 – 1554. Deprived of his Electorate by the Emperor Charles V. In 1554, John Frederick I split the duchy between his three sons:
